About the Course

This course is designed for residents of Canada and the the following States: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Be sure to check the laws in your jurisdiction to see if handwritten (also known as holograph) Wills are valid where you are.

In this course, Jessica will walk you through step-by-step handwriting your own Will. Topics covered include:

-the legal requirements for making a handwritten Will;

-the parts of the Will;

-sample provisions and wording for your handwritten Will;

-considerations when choosing an executor;

-considerations when choosing a guardian for minor children;

-the types of property ownership and their effects on your ability to deal with them in your Will;

-survivorship clauses;

-how to gift to a charity properly;

-cutting someone out of your Will;

-properly signing and dating your Will.

The course is completed with a section covering the storage of your Will, considerations warranting updating your Will, how to revise your Will, and the basics of gathering information that will be needed by your executor when you die.

The course finishes with a live Q & A. Note: Jessica Bortnick is not able to provide legal advice but can answer procedural and non-substantive legal questions.

Viewers should be able to prepare their own handwritten Will by the end of the course.
